Mad Max Trilogy: Press Release
0
The three films – Mad Max (1979), Mad Max Road Warrior (1982) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) – are all set in the near-future in Australia. From the very first film, Oscar® winner George Miller (Happy Feet, 2006) proved a master at creating the gritty, bleak dystopian world and staging the incredible car stunts and crashes in the era when stuntmen, not computers, achieved the effects. All three movies starred Mel Gibson, virtually unknown until after the second film, as Max Rockatansky, a highway cop traveling through the Outback in a society descending into chaos. The films started Gibson on his road to international superstardom, led to his signature Lethal Weapon series, and later two Academy Awards® for his roles as producer and director of Braveheart (1995).
The Mad Max Trilogy is well known for its incredible action sequences, despite the obviously low budgets. The plot line of the series is very reminiscent of Spaghetti Westerns, but spawned the iconic idea of the Thunderdome. I think we all have to hand it to stunt director, Grant Page (who performed stunts, himself, in both the first and third installments). After all, the “Saw” scene from the first movie was widely considered one of the more nail-bitingly tense scenes of decade when it was released. Check out the scene leading up to the gore (no gore directly included here, I promise):
If you’ve never seen the trilogy, and enjoy action, you’re severely missing out. If you have seen it, and want to again, now’s your chance. You can now own it on Blu-Ray (and it happens to be on sale at this very moment – just sayin’). It even comes in a really nifty metal case. Definitely a great item for a collector.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… Dyin’ time’s here.
Star of Terminator, Tombstone and Aliens aims his sights on Seattle!
0Seattle, WA – The versatile and recognizable Michael Biehn (“Kyle Reese” The Terminator 1 & T2: Judgment Day, ”Johnny Ringo” from Tombstone, ”Hicks” from Aliens) is the third celebrity guest announced for the upcoming 12th annual Emerald City Comicon taking place on March 28th – 30th, 2014 at the Washington State Convention Center. He will be appearing all three days!
Michael Biehn is one of those prolific actors and familiar faces that makes it impossible not to have enjoyed at least one of his films. He is arguably best known to mainstream audiences as bad guy “Johnny Ringo” in the cult western classic Tombstone which co-starred Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell. But fans of Sci-Fi fare will know him as both futuristic hero “Kyle Reese” in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day as well as space marine “Cpl. Hicks” in Aliens, all three films by director James Cameron. Biehn’s partnership with Cameron would continue in the 1989 underwater adventure The Abyss.
Biehn has played a Navy Seal on the big screen on no less than three occasions: the aforementioned The Abyss, the 1990 film Navy Seals co-starring Charlie Sheen and the Michael Bay action romp The Rock starring Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage.
Getting his start on television shows such as James at 16, Logan’s Run and Family, Biehn ended up with a recurring role on the critically acclaimed cop drama Hill Street Blues as “Officer Randall Buttman.” He quickly found work on the big screen in the 1983 military piece The Lords of Discipline. He also has an uncredited role as the athlete “Mike” in the 1978 musical Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
In recent years, Biehn has returned to television with appearances on Criminal Minds, Adventure Inc., The Magnificent Seven and Law and Order: Criminal Intent, while continuing to tackle roles on the big screen in films including K2, Quentin Tarrantino’s Planet Terror, and Megiddo: The Omega Code 2. He can next me seen in the upcoming cable series 24 Hour Rental, about a group of petty criminals that operate a shady video rental store.
Biehn was born in Anniston, Alabama. After moving Arizona as youth, he took part in the high school drama program at Lake Havasu City before eventually studying acting at the University of Arizona.
Also attending with Biehn will be his wife, actress Jennifer Blanc, best known for her work as “Kendra Maibaum” on the cult television series by James Cameron Dark Angel starring Jessica Alba and as “Kate Bishop” on the FOX drama Party of Five. Other credits include Touched By Angel, Veronica Mars, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Both Biehn and Blanc appear together in the independent 2011 film The VIctim, which they also produced.
Biehn and Blanc join previously announced celebrity guests Nichelle Nichols (“Lt. Uhura” from Star Trek) and Richard Dean Anderson (star of MacGyver, Stargate SG-1). Roughly two dozen celebrity guests in all will be announced for this spectacular weekend, in addition to hundreds of popular comic guests, exhibitors and several exciting new offerings and surprises.
Coming off of a sold out 2013 show, tickets for Emerald City Comicon 2014 will be in high demand when they go on sale September 1st, 2014!
With a record turnout of 64,000 patrons in 2013, Emerald City Comicon consistently ranks as one of the Top 10 most attended conventions of its kind in North America as well as increasingly becoming the favorite show among many fans, comic guests, journalists and celebrities.
Established in 2003, Emerald City Comicon, while renowned worldwide for its growing popularity, continues to remain the Northwest’s premier comic book and pop culture convention founded in the belief that investing in local artists, companies and individuals is a lasting recipe for success and longevity.

The Future of Gaming?
0How many games do you have sitting your shelf that you’ve already played through, and barely even look at anymore? And how many games are there that you’ve been wanting to play – maybe even for years – but you just can’t justify the purchase of them, perhaps even because of the collection you already have? Of course you can trade in old games to corporate companies like GameStop or Best Buy, and even purchase used games. But let’s be honest.. that’s kind of a rip. They don’t give you much for your trade-in, and turn around and sell it as used for more than twice as much.
This is exactly the conundrum a group of gamers was discussing over at Reddit a while back, and developed it into a solution. Now, you can head over to 99gamers.com to trade your games one-on-one with other gamers, and receive and pay amounts much closer to the game’s value. Personally, I love this idea. It’s a process that’s been much-needed in the gaming community for quite a while, and it’s finally here. To hear more about the service, we recently contacted Brandon Kruzeniski of 99Gamers for some questions.
NiB- What is 99gamers.com?
BK- 99Gamers is a video game trading community. Members use 99Gamers as a platform to trade directly with each other. Members add their unwanted video games and sell them to other members for a virtual currency called ‘coins’ which are valued at $1 per coin. Members can then spend their earned coins on other games.
BK- I’m one of the founders of 99Gamers with the other being my brother Jon.
BK- I originally got the idea for a video game trading site when I came across a post on Reddit about how someone would shoot darts at their game collection to choose which game they would play next. I realized that this random person had a bunch of games that I would love to play but just haven’t had the chance to. I turned to my game collection and thought that this person would probably feel the same way about my game collection.
I was also tired of getting ripped off by GameStop, knowing they would turn around and sell the game for double the next day. I knew other video game trading sites existed, but none of them were what I wanted them to be.
I wasn’t sure how many people would be interested in something like this so I decided to post it to Reddit and see what the response was like. I was thinking maybe a few hundred people would see it and I’d be able to get some feedback on the idea, but within a few hours the post was at the top of r/gaming and even hit the front page for a while, resulting in thousands of signups. I then knew enough people felt the same way I did so I went forward with the site.
BK- First, we save people a lot of money. Trading on the site is completely free so you’ll really start to see the savings add up quickly. 99Gamers is built by gamers for gamers with the sole intention of getting more value out of your game collection. We are a platform for gamers to trade directly with each other so the middle man can be cut out. Many people feel like they get ripped off when using trade-in services so 99Gamers can be used as that alternative.
I’ve also found that because you have access to such a large game library you are more inclined to try out games you may have not given a chance before. You are then more likely to purchase the sequel when it comes out. For example I hadn’t played the Dead Space series yet but after getting the games through 99Gamers I ended up buying Dead Space 3 new.
BK- We haven’t received any backlash at all. We’re still fairly new and have been mostly underground so it’s doubtful they know about us yet.
BK- We came out of beta about two months ago and we’re starting to pick up momentum. Just last week, it was nine months since I originally posted about the idea on Reddit so I did a follow up post about our progress so far. We ended up hitting the front page again which resulted in us more than doubling our user base within 24 hours. We went from having 2,300 members to now almost 6,000.
BK- Yes, I believe it has been received quite well. Both Reddit posts reached the front page which shows many people share the same feelings of not wanting to get ripped off by trade-in offers. When members trade directly with one another games can be offered at a lower value and people tend to appreciate knowing that their games will be going to a good home.
BK- Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 3 have been popular over the last few months. Now that the new Tomb Raider is out it usually gets picked up quite quickly. Pokémon games are of course always popular as everyone loves playing them. I’ve found people will often buy every game in a series together. The Mass Effect series has been very popular in the past.
BK- I actually had a list of games I had wanted when I came up with the idea and wouldn’t allow myself to get them through anywhere but 99Gamers. A few I’ve gotten are Kingdom Hearts, Max Payne 3, Pokémon SoulSilver and Assassin’s Creed II. One that I hadn’t yet received was Just Cause 2 but after the Reddit post last week I managed to grab it and it’s now on its way!
BK- Up next we’ll be adding PC games and digital codes. The search, browse and profile pages are getting a much improved new look. These will help members discover new and interesting games faster.
Down the road we plan on adding consoles and gaming accessories into the mix as well as some more exciting features. Our main goal continues to make buying and selling games as easy as possible so our members can spend more time playing games.
You can visit 99Gamers here: http://99gamers.com – Hopefully you’ll find something you’ve been wanting. Let us know how it goes!
Natalia Tena (aka TONKS!) will be at ECCC
0Seattle, WA – Captivating young British actress Natalia Tena (“Nymphadora Tonks” from the Harry Potter films, ”Osha” from HBO’s Game of Thrones) is the fourth special celebrity guest announced for the upcoming Emerald City Comicon taking place on March 1st – 3rd, 2013 at the Washington State Convention Center. She will be appearing all three days and for the first time ever in Washington State!
Tena is perhaps best known to fans as the mysterious “Tonks” in the Harry Potter films Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince and Death Hallows Part 1 & 2. She can currently be seen on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones playing the wildling “Osha.” She was first introduced to film audiences as the grunge girl “Ellie” in Hugh Grant’s 2002 comedy drama About A Boy. She most recently appeared in this year’s Bel Ami, starring Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman.
Born in the UK to Spanish parents, Tena also made a name for herself on the London stage in such prominent roles as “Fewers” in Night at the Circus and”Desdemona” in Othello.
Tena claims that her audition for Harry Potter was a spur-of-the-moment decision. After accidentally tripping over a table and chair upon arrival, she gave producers the impression that she was naturally clumsy (a strong character trait of “Tonks”).
Joining Tena at ECCC 2013 will be previously announced guests Sir Patrick Stewart (“Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation, “Dr. Charles Xavier” from the X-Men films), Billy Dee Williams (“Lando Calrissian” from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and Walter Koenig (“Chekov” from classic Star Trek). There will be over a dozen fantastic celebrity guests in all!
Tickets for Emerald City Comicon 2013 are ON SALE NOW by visiting www.emeraldcitycomicon.com or any number of local comic book stores, also listed on the website!
ECCC 2013 will feature its most expansive variety of film/television stars, voice actors, comic guests, vendors, merchandise, gaming, contests, artists, speakers and pop culture yet!
With record-breaking attendance of over 53,000 attendees in 2012, Emerald City Comicon has established itself as one of North America’s largest and most respected shows of its kind anywhere in the world and has become the premier event of its kind in the Northwest. Founded by Seattle-area entrepreneur and Geekwire’s “Geek of the Year” Award winner Jim Demonakos in 2003, ECCC has become highly regarded in both national and international circles as one of the most fan and family-friendly shows in existence.
Look for regular press releases containing all of the latest news leading up to the show in March 2013. For more information, please visit ECCC’s website at www.emeraldcitycomicon.com
